Names you hate:

Category: Let's talk

Post 1 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Friday, 08-Jan-2010 23:28:54

Okay, so I figured I might as well make this topic, and not just out of curiosity. We've got the ghetto names you've heard thread, and the one about your top ten favorite boys' and girls' names. So what are some names you absolutely hate or just can't stand? What are some names you don't like because they are too common, or because they sound like they ought to be swear words?
The name that made me think of creating this board was Ashlin. Uglyyyy!
And if any names mentioned on this thread just so happen to be yours, try not to get offended. It's not your fault your parents named you what they did. And keep in mind, it's your name that's being judged, not you.
Alright, shoot.

Post 3 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 7:12:39

I find Kyle horribly wannabe fratboyish name (had a suite mate like that in college, may be that's why), I, somehow, find the name Angelina very bitchy, not sure why, I like Angel and Angela just fine, but Angelina rubs me the wrong way round.

Post 4 by hi5 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 8:10:59

Hepburn! blek! Its my dad's name lol. Agatha. Makes me thing of hag!

Post 5 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 8:47:07

oh i love this topic!!!!! I collect names.

Here are the ones for girls I detest. kaitlin, tayler, lindsey, morgan, brandy, misty, ashley,, jennifer, michele, and hillary.

for boys harry, herman, seymour, timmothy, thomas.

Post 6 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 8:51:35

on a similarly related theme, have you ever noticed how some folks names identify their ersonality characters? with the acception of one, every cheryl I have ever known has been a cheating lying bitch. contrasted is that every gail i have ever met has become a life long friend.

Post 7 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 9:38:39

I hate the name Agatha too.

Post 8 by hi5 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 10:27:26

Rupert and Viveen.

Post 9 by kamalani (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 20:11:10

Post 11 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 21:49:57

Names I hate:
Girls: Jessica (usually a spoiled rotten, backstabbing, gossip hound in my opinion)
Sarah (Crazy and unpredictable)
Crystal (um, psychotic)
Britney, Tiffany, Stephany, Courtney (mostly prissy)
Boys' Names I can't stand
Doug (reminds me of a teenage kid with smelly feet)
Howard, Dick, fred, Lester, Pete, Bart, Bert, Ernie (All sound like sex-offenders)
Kevin, Chris, Nick, Dave, Mark and Andrew (mostly names of absolute ass holes)

Post 12 by maroon five (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 10-Jan-2010 4:07:18

okay i'm going to say my own name in it's long version. my dad named me Elizabeth because of his side of the family, (apparently he had a grate aunt, or grate grate aunt or some such relative back that far named Elizabeth), wich is why i absolutely hate being called Elizabeth. it just sounds awful, and reminds me of the queen of England. i also hate the other shortening of Elizabeth, beth, even though Beth can be short for Bethaney to, (unfortunetly i hate that name as well). i don't particularly like the name Mark either, cause all the Mark's i kno are pains in the ass. my mother and i both hate the name Kylie, (sorry to any Kylie's), i had a bad experience with a girl named Kylie when i was in school, and i'd never name my child that. i'm sure their are others, but i can't think of them now. lol

Post 13 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 10-Jan-2010 8:24:33

My name happens to be Joanne, and personally, I hate it because for ages now, people have mispronounced it by saying Joanna. Grrr, that drives me nuts. Can anyone think of a good female name that would work well with the last name Stark? thinking of legally changing my first name.
Anyway, names I can't stand for girls simply because they're overused:
amanda
can't really think of any boy names that are just plane awful--sounding.

Post 14 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 10-Jan-2010 8:33:53

Here are some of mine. I wouldn't say I hate them, but I'm just not into these names:
For girls: Jen, Tish, Agnes, Val, Joanne, Trisha, Joan, Pat, Tammy, Jess, Anna, Sue, Jackie, Angelina, Allie.
For boys: Bert, Jack, Tim, Jim, Al, Frank, Dirk, Tom, Tommy, Ray, Ronald, Ron, Ronny, Pat, Manny, Rick, Richard, Richie, Vic, Victor, Robby, Rob.

Post 15 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Sunday, 10-Jan-2010 12:33:54

I absolutely despise the names Samantha, Victoria, Linda, Loretta, and Caitlin for girls cause everyone I've known with those names is a backstabber/liar/all about drama, and that's not what I'm about.
for boys: Anthony or Tony cause I hear it often, as well as Robert, Rob, or any variation thereof.
I'll be back if I think of more.

Post 16 by Dirty Little Oar (I'd rather be rowing.) on Monday, 11-Jan-2010 17:35:19

I hate the names Maggie/Margret, alicia and Elizabeth mostly because of negative experiences with people with those names. I don't like Jennifer, Kaitlin, Kristen, Megan, Brittney, Mikayla, Amanda, Courtney, and Ashley because they are either too common, too cutesy-poo or both. As for boys names that annoy me, I'd have to go with Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Dakota and all other similar names that have become trendy over the past 10-15 years or so. And I really hate the name Jeremy because it is just icky.

Post 17 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Tuesday, 12-Jan-2010 7:44:24

in my names to hate i forgot harry and larry.

Post 18 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Tuesday, 12-Jan-2010 7:46:41

oh yes and any name for a grown man that ends in the ee sound like mikey, scottie, billy, jimmy, or tommy. 'xcuse me, you are an adult. if your mommy must, let her call you that but most of you who have those eeing names still need her around to help you do your laundry and such.

Post 19 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Tuesday, 12-Jan-2010 7:53:23

oh yes and for the record, so I am not accused of being sexist, same goes for susie and janie. i have a sister in law who constantly complains because no one takes her seriously. hey, oh duh? you insist on being janie. where's your jump rope and your barbie doll.

Post 20 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Tuesday, 12-Jan-2010 13:32:36

the name Chris for a guy should've been top on my list.

Post 21 by Elenhiia (Feather'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr for president!) on Thursday, 14-Jan-2010 4:28:49

All the Taylors and Elizabeths I've known were bitches, all the Courtneys I've known were bitches (Jesus, there was this one Courtney in the dorm at blink institution and she was SUCH a bitch, anyway), I knew twins called Lawwna and Latrice, I hated their names and hated them more. note that these are all girls who lived in the dorm, no wonder their parents made them live at school... I hate the only Alexis I've ever known, but don't mind her, her name, or the name Alexa. Almost every single Rob I've ever known, ironically enough, has been a total good-for-nothing asshole. Rob in school, all the Robs that ever worked with my mom, two of the Robs on here...the list goes on. Jen just irritates me. Well hi, Jenny Jen Jen, *vomit* anyway. Gus, Bud, Mark, John, Todd, Billy, Bill or William, Craig, Ray (I had a stepdad who spelled it R E Y, he was an asshole. However, his family was amazing, his mother is one of my favorite people ever). Priscilla, Linda, Mae, April (all the Aprils I've known are prissy, stuck-up bitches). lmao, I agree with Crystal being psychotic, all the Crystals I've known were psychotic too. But I don't mind the name. Rachel, Bree/Brianne/Brianna. Can't stand those names. Agatha/Aggie/Agnes, definitely ick. Lindsay just screams bitch when I hear the name, don't know why. The onlz Annes I've known were hypocritical, bitchy old ladies. And I'm done for now...

Post 22 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Thursday, 14-Jan-2010 7:34:08

Lol. Great job, Aiyana! I had the hardest time naming my kids because every other fucking name I hate!!!! Somebody would make a suggestion and I'd wanna puke! Maybe I just know too many people. I even hate my own name because every other Brandi I've known's been totally whacked out or stuck-up! Hmmmmm...........

Post 23 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Friday, 15-Jan-2010 21:22:59

Girls' names I hate:
Samantha, Hannah, Anna, Agatha, Farra, Karra.
As for boys:
Harry, Larry, Jeff, Winston, Ernie.
That's it for now, I'll post more when I think of them.

Post 24 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Friday, 15-Jan-2010 21:31:02

God, I hate the name Frank too! Yuck! I also hate Lisa because everyone I've ever known named Lisa was either screwed up in the head or on drugs or both. Other than that there aren't too many names I absolutely hate, just some that I wouldn't name my kids like Robert or Jessica or any other really common names.

Post 25 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Friday, 15-Jan-2010 21:35:25

Oh, I did think of one more I can't stand, John. It's so boring.

Post 26 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Saturday, 16-Jan-2010 0:16:30

I don't like Frank either. Nor do I like Stella. Such an ugly name!
Also, Cherryl, Peggy, Pam
The names Trevor and Doug are also quite distasteful.

Post 27 by maroon five (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Saturday, 16-Jan-2010 7:59:01

i don't like the names, Craig, frank, francis, francise (the one with the e is the female one), amanda, charles, maranda, lerissa, merissa, melissa (even though i kno of one Melissa who is nice), riece (all spellings included), danielle, belinda, linda, shianne, and sherrel (reminds me of this song "since sherrel went ferrel" lmaoooo).

Post 28 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 16-Jan-2010 11:26:43

Post 29 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Sunday, 17-Jan-2010 0:12:56

I don't like the names Margarett, Barbara, or Larissa either.
I also hate, hate, hate the male name Winston! Ewwwww!

Post 30 by hi5 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 17-Jan-2010 8:24:49

Quinton, milton, Rebecca. Always makes me think of that baby got back song where the girl goes, "Oh, my, God, becky look at her butt." gross! Also lusinta, lucinda, Germane. Makes me think of Jerm lol. Rufus, gus, Quincy, Arnald, Arthor, byron, Myra, Claude. That was my x's name, but I never ever neverever liked it. Pamela or any variation of it, hyacinth, Stanley or anything related, pablo, paco, Yvonne, Willard, mildred. God I hate that name! Doreen, Audrey. Hank, Pervis (perv), Millicent, among others.

Post 31 by hi5 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 17-Jan-2010 12:56:56

I've heard some of you mention the name Bart. its just weird for me because I've always associated it with the simpsons lol. But the long version of that name, bartholomew, is what's dreadful! No no. Ethel, Bessy, Lucius, Benjamin. Wilma, Vilma, thelma, hilda and matilda.

Post 32 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Sunday, 17-Jan-2010 13:24:45

Post 33 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Friday, 22-Jan-2010 17:27:47

Okay. Three female names I absolutely cannot stand are Judith, Meredith, and Robin. Gaaaaaaaagggggg!

Post 38 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Saturday, 23-Jan-2010 10:15:34

I used to hate my name, but not anymore.

Post 39 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Sunday, 24-Jan-2010 18:37:26

As for poster 35, a few? That was a plethora, though it was a nice contribution to the thread. I hate the names Herbert, Hunter, and Heathcliff as well. And Hershall? I've never heard that one before, but it's quite awful.
For poster 37, lol!

Post 40 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Monday, 25-Jan-2010 19:13:05

Post 41 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Tuesday, 26-Jan-2010 22:27:46

In my independent living class, there's this guy that sits next to me named Brody. What kind of name is that?
It's rather distasteful in my opinion.

Post 42 by fiveberry (Generic Zoner) on Thursday, 28-Jan-2010 15:15:15

OK, this is a really interesting topic. I can't think of any names I really "hate". There are a few ones I would never call my own children though, for example Lisa, Julia (as many girls are called like that) or names that remind you of an older generation and aren't used a lot anymore, such as Friedrich, Friedhelm, Wilhelm, Hildegard or anything similar.

Post 43 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Thursday, 28-Jan-2010 20:03:05

I don't like the names Rebecca, Lindsay or Rhonda, either.

Post 44 by maroon five (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Saturday, 30-Jan-2010 15:39:53

lol Rhonda reminds me of that awful song by the Beach boys. "help me Rhonda". so i'm also adding that name to my list. i don't like the names Norman, (even though my uncle goes by that name, but it's not his real name), Kevin, Steven, or Donnald.

Post 45 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Sunday, 31-Jan-2010 14:42:15

I don't like the names Dick, Bob, or Shelby.

Post 46 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Sunday, 31-Jan-2010 17:40:27

I also intensely dislike the names dick, Bob, Donald, and Norman.
I think that Aaron as a girl name is ugly, though it's a cool name for a guy.

Post 47 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Sunday, 31-Jan-2010 20:54:05

I hate the name Mike; it's bland to me.

Post 48 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Tuesday, 02-Feb-2010 9:16:56

this weekend I was at my grand daughter's house. the girl next door is having a baby very soon, whom she is going to name landon. To my credit, I did not gag or make a face. I said in my constipated librarian voice "oh how interesting. is that a family name?" landon? hey bub you landon on the moon or the shit pile? with the intelligence of the mom, i fear his place of rest will be the latter choice. whoops. meow meow.

oh someone mentioned monique. would you believe at my pediatricians one time, they called in these baby twins named monique and unique. I had to bite my lip to keep from cracking up.

at my friend's church there is a girl named lasagna. her mom loved it and named the kid after her fave food. poor poor child.

finally, i thought of my all time most hated boy's name. norman. find me the barf bag quick!!!

Post 49 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Tuesday, 02-Feb-2010 22:38:29

I like the names Monique and Unique. I think they are both very nice names.
But Lasagna? Why would anyone ever do that?! That is all too ridiculous.

Post 50 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 03-Feb-2010 11:04:59

For me, Jannet and Bonnie are names I don't really like, only because everyone I've known with those names with one or two exceptions has always been an athority figure who thinks they have all the power. I don't think so much of the really common names, such as my own, where when you say to someone, I'm Jessica, for example, they say something like, Which one? There are six or seven of them.

I don't really like last names that are really just a first name with S added to the end. Rogers, Adams, yeah...those. Where's the originality?

Post 51 by hi5 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 07-Feb-2010 18:20:30

Chet, lyle. iwwww! Clide. disgusting. Ferdinan or fernando. My mother would call those names "Old and tired" or "big and aweful" haha!

Post 52 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Monday, 08-Feb-2010 7:58:09

I also don't really like the short forms for names that don't sound related at all, Bill being short for William, for example, and especially, Dick for Richard. Where did that one come from? Lol.

Post 53 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Monday, 08-Feb-2010 22:06:29

Jess, I was thinking the same thing. lol. I hate the name Monique...with a passion!!

Post 54 by maroon five (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 08-Feb-2010 22:36:00

first, poor kid, i wouldn't want to be named after my mother's favourite food, if that was the case, i'd probablly be called something weird. lol, i don't like twin ryming names like, Monica and Veronica, (i don't like thoes names period). i don't like Lance, James, Jimmmy, Samuel, Dick (why someone would name their kid after a guy's, um...is beyond me), Peta (female spelling), and i also don't like hyphonated names, like Mary-Anne, or Rose-Marie.

Post 55 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Monday, 08-Feb-2010 23:19:05

I don't like the shortened, unrelated versions of names either. I also think the name Gretchen is atrocious. Also, the names Farra, Karra, and Cicilia are all very ugly.

Post 56 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Tuesday, 09-Feb-2010 3:26:17

lol u guys are crackin me up tonight...at post 52 how about hank for henry (which i hate already)...oh yeah and there's this set of twins named lemonjello and oranjello pronounced (lemaun-jello and oraun-jello) yuck who'd name there child after two flavors of jello...grow up people

Post 57 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Tuesday, 09-Feb-2010 22:35:28

Oh, hell no! Whoever did that last dastardly deed needs to have both their achilles tendons slashed! Yuck! What would you call those kids for short? What kind of pet names could you pull from them? Could you imagine moaning one of those names in bed? Why am I thinking things like this? lol!

Post 58 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 10-Feb-2010 7:59:12

Lol to the last poster! Some people seriously need to think their names through before they just make it their child's main form of identification.

Yeah, and just think if you were an employer and happened to run across a job application with one of those names. Ya ain't workin' here!

Post 61 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 11-Feb-2010 8:45:51

It's sad when people get rejected because of their name. I'll leave this story anonimous, but a guy I know has a name that apparently looks like a girl's name, so when a person he doesn't know is looking for him going just by his name and the fact that he is blind, they're almost always looking for a girl, and will sometimes go as far as to say that he's not there, even when they're looking right at him, because there's no girl.

Post 62 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Thursday, 11-Feb-2010 11:15:15

oh wow; very sad indeed.

Post 63 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Saturday, 13-Feb-2010 0:26:10

Agreed. But unfortunately, whether a person gets or is considred for a job or not is sometimes based off their name.

Birtha. Sounds like a really old lady. Nothing against old ladies, but it's the name. It also reminds me of a hurricane from a few years ago.

Post 72 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Saturday, 20-Feb-2010 11:30:58

Yes, and certain names need to stay out.

Post 73 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Saturday, 20-Feb-2010 12:37:12

I really can't stand the name Candis. It sounds like such a bitch name.

Post 74 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Saturday, 20-Feb-2010 20:50:44

I can't stand the name Arlo.

Post 75 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Sunday, 21-Feb-2010 13:23:12

Wow. I've never heard of that name.

Post 76 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Sunday, 21-Feb-2010 18:49:14

I don't like my birthname Tiffany. I've never liked it. It's too American, too common and I constantly get remarks about Tiffany lamps, jewellery, glass etc. I much rather the name that I want to make legal, Eleni. Yes, it's extremely common as well, but has meaning and I've always loved it. It annoys me that my family and even some friends still call me Tiffany and when I have to introduce myself as such, say for business or something, it bothers me.

Post 77 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Sunday, 21-Feb-2010 19:20:45

I don't like the name Elizabeth. The name is ugly; and on top of that, it makes me think of a witch for whatever reason.

Post 78 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Monday, 22-Feb-2010 14:32:41

I agree...any variation thereof like Lliz or Lizzie, I don't like either.

Post 79 by Perestroika (Her Swissness) on Tuesday, 23-Feb-2010 9:00:45

I dislike girls names that have originally come from Boys names and have just had an extra letter or two added on or changed.

Paula, Pauline, Petra, Wilhelmina, Norma, Danielle, Samantha and erica are just a few I can think of now. I dislike them because more often than not they get shortened forms of their names that also qualify as nicknames for boys.

Paul, Dannhy, sam, etc.

I dislike names for boys for less explainable reasons.
Tyler, Kyle, aaron and many other of the more popular names are on my dislike list.

Yup, girls named Samantha. They insist that we call them Sam. No thank you!

Post 81 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Tuesday, 23-Feb-2010 12:10:44

I think every person I've ever known with the name Samantha insists that I call her Sam.

Yeah....Elizabeth just sounds....like the queen, and nobody else. Lol.

Post 82 by Perestroika (Her Swissness) on Tuesday, 23-Feb-2010 14:10:43

but the problem is is that all samuels insist that too, and i really dislike that.

Have you ever noticed that often in books, they'll give the back stabbing, coldhearted characters stereotypical names that match those traits?

Post 88 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Tuesday, 23-Feb-2010 17:45:49

I never thought about that, but that's a good point. they should add the name Caitlin to that category; hahaha.

Poster seventy-nine, I totally agree with you. When I was in the fourth grade, i met a girl named Keithetta. If that's not atrocious, I really don't know what is! Come on, why would anyone do that to their little girl?

Post 90 by Perestroika (Her Swissness) on Wednesday, 24-Feb-2010 13:38:36

I met a Kevita, and that was ok, until I learnt that everyone called her kev and I just disliked the name from then on in.

Yeah. See, when parents try to make masculine names feminine, it just doesn't turn out pretty.
Another name I don't like: Michael. It just seems so bland.

Bob is short for robert and Robert can be shortened to Rob. Now, can you trust someone who robs you? No, so Rob is bad.
Also it's been said but Tyler for some reason makes me think of dead skin.

Post 105 by Lindsay3.14 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Friday, 12-Mar-2010 3:21:15

Blerg! One of my friends had a reader in college with the name--get this--Chestical!!! And her last name was Petite! Now, I've certainly seen some pretty ugly names in my life, but this one has to take the cake.

Other girls' names I don't like because they sound to me like death and decay are Doris, Wilma, Agnes, Maud, Agatha, Thelma, Norma, Hilda, Bertha (just, ugh); many names that end in "ette" or "etta" such as Claudette, Bernadette, Josette, Georgetta, Henrietta (the name just screams hippo to me).

For guys: Hubert, Herbert, Wilfred, Claude. Perhaps the name that has left the worst taste in my mouth--so to speak--is Oral. Just...yuck! There are also some guy names that I don't like for other reasons. Names that end in "aiden/aden" often sound too trendy and weak to me (Caden, hayden, Aidan, etc.). I have also recently heard the name Ryder, and I can't help but associate it with a cowboy. No thanks.

I've also met a number of stuck-up Courtneys and Brittanys, and more than my fair share of weird blind guys named Kyle and Kevin to develop somewhat of an aversion to these names, although I don't absolutely detest them.

Post 106 by Lindsay3.14 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Friday, 12-Mar-2010 3:26:59

Oh, and I forgot Horace and Gertrude! Also, while working for my university's alumni call center, someone came across the name of an alumnus named Dorcas. Just...wow. Hahaha, I read most of the board before I decided I'd write the names I couldn't stand, and lots of those names just sound so... ewwwwww! (and most of them, I've never heard of until now).

These are just a few (cause I can't think at the moment...) but I just can't stand:
Lester, Chester, Lary, Harry, Jessica, Cassandra (that's the whole version of my name, and I just hate it because it sounds so... sophisticated), Britney, Kendel, Chassedy, John (cause it's just so boring), Stella, er... that's all I can think of at the moment.

Post 118 by Mlynwei (Last word? Gimmie the first!) on Friday, 02-Apr-2010 6:13:50

Lmao, I’ve seen Dorcas before! During my internship last summer I ran across that name on a call list. Also on that same list I ran across the last name, get this, Furbush.
After reading this entire thread, I was surprised to learn that I actually like many of the names on everyone’s shit list. Here are a few name concepts that irk me.
When parents go all biblical and give their kids holyish names. Noah, Seth, Enoch, Jeremiah and so on. Also when someone names all of their children something real predictable. Like 4 brothers called Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Ironically though, one of my favorite names is David.
I almost feel racist about this one, but Ebonic names bug the hell out of me. Like Keyshaun, Laquisha, Jamisha, Latrika. All of those are for real by the way. I mean, I understand about being creative, but come on!
I hate it when Catherines and Cathies insist on being called Cath. Makes me think of a catheter! The
same goes for Dianas wanting to be called Die.
The name Denise was permanently ruined for me by someone I knew in high school.
Most of these I can handle, but here are the ones I absolutely cannot stand.
For boys:
Frank, because it sounds like you’re choking whenever you say it.
Duncan, because of doughnuts. Need I say more?
Waldo, sounds like a wall-mounted dildo to me. Who’d name their kid that?
For girls:
Kirstan/Kierstan/Kirstie, because it’s so prissy, frilly, bitchy the list goes on…
Mavis, because it reminds me of an old lady with too many cats and too much time on her hands.
And then there’s… Drum roll… Dierdra. Just, frickin, barf!

Anyone who names their kid Daniel should go and... think of another name! ugh

Females: Gertrude, Agnes, Mildred, Carmen, Dora, Prudence, mona, female ebonics names, and names with too much testosterone, such as Jerry. I once met a stunningly beautiful Jerry, but her name murdered it for me.

Males: Donovan, Jerome, Nathaniel, Gordon, Steven,... but Daniel should just completely disappear!

Hey guys! Wow- some of your posts are cracking me up! hahahaha! For names I totally dispize for guys: Frank, Ritch, Dennis Chris: I don't know something about this name- I just don't like. Ira: sounds like a girls name to me. (any boy names that sound like a girl) are names I don't like. Jakecup I don't like either. That's about it for boys.
For girls: Michelle: I absolutely, detest/loath/hate this name! Every girl named Michelle was a stuck up bitch, or very rude. Taylor: it sounds to much like a boy. Denise: Hate this one too! I once knew a girl named Deniese, and well she was a bitch, and so... and I've just never liked it! Milldrid, Birtha, sounds like someones giving birth lol! I think that's all for now. Oh and I use to hate my own name, Amber. (I kind of still do) but not as much as when I was younger.

Post 142 by squidwardqtentacles (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 06-Jul-2010 17:02:19

Can't say I hate any names, but I am totally NOT into the trendy girls' names: Morgan, Madison, McKenna, Brianna, Brittany, Alexis, Caitlin, Kaylee...no thanks. My daughter Mimi actually is named after her grandmother "Malika", a very common name in Arab countries/Indian subconinent, and her middle name "Maryam" is "Miriam" or "Mary" in Christendom.

Can't say I have as strong feelings about any boys' names, although I find some Italian names near me annoying, like "Angelo". It's not even so much the names as the attitudes behind the naming, the Italian flags on car bumpers, the treatment a distant friend's daughter got at a Catholic high school. The family surname was Irish, so this girl got "What are you doing at this school? You don't have a name ending in a vowel." ?! It's the cultural superiority attitude behind such names that's so annoying.

Post 143 by squidwardqtentacles (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 06-Jul-2010 17:59:12

I have waaay more names that I despise than names that I like. I'm really picky about names. lol, I love simple names for boys, you know country boy names, like Jack and Tommy, John, jerry, etc. For whatever reason I love the names Alexa and Chelsea, but those are pretty much the only girl names I like besides my own name. lol

For boys I hate: Robert, Michael, Aiden (overdone), Brandon, Braydan, Daniel, Sam, Richard, Phill, Steve, Nick, Logan, Morgan, Austin, Jadan, Seth, Zack (yuck), Kaylin (yes that's a boy name, ick), Edward, Tyler, William, Nathaniel, Chad, Chester (ugh), Dewayne, etc etc, the list goes on and on and on ....

for girls: Sarah, Barbara (barf), Brenda, Jannis, Carlie, Olivia (way overdone), Krystin/Crystal/Kristina/Kristine, Julia, Dora, Hailee/Caylee (overdone), Lindsay, Lauren (ugh), Nicole (nooo), Margret, Emily (omg yuck), Logan, Danielle, Rochelle, Zoie (wo yuck), Wilma, Thelma, Ethall, Susie, Liz, Tammy, Donna, and especially Dawn (I'msorry, I know you think it's beautiful, I strongly disagree). I hate complex names like Nevaeh (yes I know it's heaven backwards, it doesn't mean it should be a name I can't pronouce). And girl names that are boy names, like Mikie, Morgan, Jordan, Timmie, Marlie, etc yotta yotta.

I'm sure there are more that I can't think of. lol, good day.

I can't stand the names that you know 10 people with. I know it was said already I'm sure, but I can't stand the name Chris already. Do you know how many Christophers I've met?

Also Johns. How many freaking Johns do we need?

And Matthew. No, I don't have a thing against religious names. They're just so common it's damn boring already!

For girls, I absolutely, positilvey cannot stand majority of girls names that are feminine versions of male names. I'm more referring to names that just add an "A" at the end. Roberta, Liberta, Carla, etc.

I also don't care for Mary, Ann and Beth. Oh my goodness, just shoot me! I love to read romances as I'd like to be a romance author one day, and I can't tell you how many Beths and Anns I've seen. I actually stopped reading one author because I got sick of her using the name in almost every book. Bleck!

Time Keeper, I like your name! I love time honored names, Biblical or otherwise.

Couldn't help but laugh at "Dolores". Is this how some spell that name? In Spanish the word 'dolor' means 'pain', so I guess with the 'es' someone's named their daughter 'Pains'? Doesn't sound like a name that would work in a Hispanophone society.

the name Linda makes me think of a stuck up bitch who thinks she knows everything; usually the know-it-all counselor, social worker type.

Every person I know named Denise is too religious for my liking, so naturally, I've developed a distaste for that name.

speaking of religious, I really don't like Joseph or Mary for a name. Please, save it for church talk.

I also don't like it when parents name their kid after a celebrity on purpose, like when they share a last name with a celebrity, so they match the first name, too.

Lol! Fun topic! Well, a name I absolutely despise is Norman. So damn dorky! Just...yech! And Dick. Also, like someone else said, putting E on the end of your name...Donny, Mikey, etc. So kiddish. For girls, I'd say Agatha and Gertrude.

Oh yeah. Thought of a couple other girl names I really can't stand. Stacy and Mindy. No offense meant to anyone with those names, but yeah. They just sound stupid to me.

Met a lady named Marlo. Kind of a weird name that didn't set well with me & I recently heard a woman had a baby & named him Pryor. Ugh! & then there's Max (that's a dog's name to me), & I also don't like a lot of those girls' names in the Bible; Rahab & Ruth & Dinah to name a few.

I really hate the modern black names for identity's sake but they make me cringe

montea pronounced, mon-tae-aa

tequetia or however they spell it. pronounced tae-quee-sha,

roneisha

secresta: pronounced se-quee-sta,

breasha

and so forth the names just don't taste right in my mouth, and I don't really much like the name lakeria either, that just doesn't tastes right either.

I don't like asian sounding names turned in to real names, they might be very pretty in their asian sounding tongues but don't even sound right in English.

Mine fore example, Kawing, I despise my real name, it just doesn't sound right. and I don't really let anyone call me that in English, it's a shame that's my real name. haha

and stuff like yenyen
nasha

sessey

ada and stuff like that

some names I don't like that are white names like

dana doesn't sound all that pretty all that much

and niether does franny.

I like more smoother names that are white or european, that just sounds really together.
